The Rotary Club of Bishopdale Burnside is one of 33 Clubs in the Rotary District 9970 that covers an area from the top of the South Island to the West Coast through to Christchurch and as far South as Ashburton
Run by a District Governor with Assistant Governors allocated to each Club the role is to assist clubs in their running.
Rotary District Governors are very well trained for their role starting from the confirmation of their selection. They have the proactive support of their club, district leadership team and Past District Governors plus their special year group of fellow Governors and partners / spouses.
Past District Governors agree that this journey, which commenced on the day that their nomination was confirmed and they officially become the District Governor Nominee, was probably the most enjoyable, positive and lifechanging experience of their life.
Each year there is a Conference hosted by the District Governors own Club. Usually held over a weekend in May, it consists of high quality speakers, from Business and Community organisation’s inter-spaced with networking and social events.
District co-ordinate the Clubs into various projects collectively.
In 2001/2002 Keith DeDulin from the Rotary Club of Bishopdale Burnside was appointed District Governor for District 9970 and during his term the Club hosted a very successful annual Conference in Invercargill.
2017-18 District Governor of 9970 is Sarita McLean from the Rotary Club of Christchurch South.

2017-18 District Governor Elect John Driscoll from the Rotary Club of Ashburton will be taking over from Sarita McLean as District Governor in the 2018-19 year.
