Acknowledging Members

Our 1st of July 2024, changeover function was also a chance to honour two of our members.

You might recall at our recent 50th Anniversary our remaining founder member Robin Mundy had the pleasure of cutting the birthday cake.

Robin has at the end of June decided it was time to move on to the next stage in his life, although the Club has bestowed Robin with an honorary membership and we are likely to continue to see Robin at various Club events.

At the changeover, the Club presented Robin with an Outstanding Service Award for 50 years of dedicated service to Rotary and the Community.

Also on the night, outgoing President Rod Finch presented Fundraising Director and BOOKarama organiser for the last few years Garry Hampton with a Paul Harris Sapphire Pin to recognise his work, particularly with our Annual Book Sale. Garry will be handing over the day-to-day organisation of BOOKarama to member Ian as part of the Club’s succession plan, but will remain a pivotal part of the committee.

Paul Harris was the founder of Rotary International of which our club is but one of over 46,000 worldwide. The sapphire pin is equivalent to a double Paul Harris Fellow Award, and in New Zealand are usually awarded to Rotarians to underline a long-term contribution to Rotary and the Community.
