Our speaker at this week's meeting, Alana Chapman from the North Canterbury Terrace Edge winery explained how their 27 Seconds wine came about. It was on a visit to Kolkata, India with husband Pete to visit friends who run Freeset a business offering alternative work for prostitutes. During a walk around town Alana and Pete became aware of Nepalese girls who it turned out had been trafficked into prostitution and modern slavery. On returning to NZ and the family winery the idea of producing and selling wine and donating 100% of the profits to help survivors of slavery began.
